Opening Weekend!

January 27, 2009

30pm Friday!

Tejas Singh: 9:30pm Friday!

We’re reopening for the Spring semester this Friday, the 30th, and we have a great weekend lined up for you! Don’t forget that our showtimes have been moved up half an hour. Now the music starts at 8:30pm.

Friday night:
8:30pm: Scott Meyer
9:30 pm: Tejas Singh (check out his poster above)
10:30: Sarah Newman

Saturday night:
8:30pm: Andrew Rose Gregory
9:30pm: Shawn Taylor
10:30pm: Aunt Martha

You might recognize Aunt Martha’s frontman, Tim Noyes, a regular crypter. Word has it Matisyahu opened for them at the Rockwood Music Hall, no joke!

That’s it for now, friends. See you ALL this weekend! Show up early for good seats and free popcorn.

Winter Break Update

December 27, 2008

low
Columbia is sleepy and snowy, and the students are all home nestled in their beds, catching up on a semester of sleep deprivation. Postcrypt, too, is in hibernation for this winter month. We will reopen on Friday, January 30. In the meantime, an important update:

Due to building policies, we’re changing the times of our concerts starting next semester. They will be moved to half an hour earlier. That means our shows will be starting at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30. I know my parents, for one, will be happy, because now they can come to the crypt without worrying about staying up too much past their bedtime.

Happy New Year everyone! We’ll see you in January.

Diana Wong just sent me the photos she took on Friday. Check out her flickr to see more of her great work. Which photo should we submit to Peak Organic?

Sad as it is, this is the last weekend of the semester for Postcrypt! Tonight is lit night–be sure to come to hear your fellow students and professors read their poetry and fiction. It’s sure to be a good time.

In bar news, we have new beer in: a local stout called Mother’s Milk, made by Keegan Ales in Kingston, NY, and a Sam Adams Winter Lager. Also, butter was purchased, making the popcorn infinitely more tasty.

Last night, we had a great and well-attended show: Shawn Taylor played the first set, followed by two sets by the talented Anthony Da Costa and Abbie Gardner, two of our favorite performers. We were all really happy and lucky to have two hours of their great music. Bwog wrote a nice article about Anthony: everyone is pulling for him to come to Columbia next year. Some of the Postcrypt managers are writing him a peer recommendation: we harbor secret hopes of passing the keys of the Crypt to him when we graduate.

Photographer Diana Wong was on hand at Postcrypt last night, taking pictures that actually capture our wonderful (lack of) lighting. We’re finally going to submit pictures to Peak Organic beer—we’ve been trying to get on their label forever. Updates about that when we have them, and I’ll upload Diana’s pictures when she sends them to me.

Hope to see you all tonight for Lit Night!

This is the new, official (under-construction!) blog of Postcrypt Coffeehouse, an all-acoustic music venue on the campus of Columbia University. We’ll be updating here about past and upcoming performances, press, and, of course, Troubles With the University. For now, bear with us as we get the blog together!
